Every November dawns the beginning of a new year for boys high school hockey in most of the states across the US, but for one state it's the beginning of something else. The State of Hockey is home to approximately 265 high school teams and 6,500 students that battle one another for the right to secure 16 spots in the 2 boys state tournaments (Class A and Class AA). In recent years the tournaments attendance is a little over 20,000, better than the average attendance most NHL teams gather. Last years tournament even featured a few nights where the attendance was higher than any active NHL game that night. If you're looking to get tickets for the Class AA tournament you might want to get to the rink a little early, nearly 1,000 names are on the waiting list to get season tickets that takes roughly three to four years to get through. The roughly 3,800 season ticket holders take up roughly 11,000 of the seats available, while participating schools receive around 1,400-1,500 tickets. The scarce amount of unsold tickets go on sale an hour before the first game kicks off and people are lined up outside the doors well before that to see some of the best hockey in the country, but it's not only the folks in Minnesota who tune in for this prestigious event. Aside from local television broadcasting the tournament, anyone in the world was able to stream this years tournament from Prep45.com. In all, not only did viewers from all 50 states watch the tournament, but a total of 37 different countries such as Switzerland and the United Kingdom as well.
